Meta administrator[edit]

- To be frank, we do need volunteers, and administrators would be welcome as well.
- But there are requirements before one can become eligible as Meta Administrator.
- Seen as you haven't contributed much yet, and you need to know the ropes of how things work here.
- By focussing on helping out in other areas, like fighting vandalism, answering questions from other users, write user guides that we might still lack, etc. we can see what kind of person you are and how the community responds to you as well. Meta Admins hold a trusted role, that needs to be earned.
- I hope you will become an active volunteer, and please let us know what your experiences are elsewhere. Kind regards, Rodejong 💬 Talk ✉️ Email 📝 Edits יהוה

Request to become a translator[edit]
I would like to apply to be a translator, for translating Miraheze's English policy into Traditional Chinese (zh-hant). I have an experience on editing Wikipedia, including translating English articles into Chinese. My English proficiency has fulfilled the requirement of level 3, and I am a (Taiwanese-standard) Mandarin native speaker. Szeronine (talk) 02:33, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

Requesting Autopatrolled for Zakawer2[edit]
Please give Zakawer2 (talk • contribs • logs) autopattrolled permission.
I've followed and pattroled his Danish translation work, and looks perfectly fine to me. Also other contributions are correct. Kind regards, Rodejong 💬 Talk ✉️ Email 📝 Edits יהוה Auth 15:42, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- Alright, this is now

In Progress ▷ Pending[edit]
I would like to change {{Status}} from In Progress to Pending as In Progress means that it's looked at. Meanwhile Pending conveys the idea that it is waiting for review/action.
I hope this can be done as a non-controversial change. Kind regards, Rodejong 💬 Talk ✉️ Email 📝 Edits יהוה Auth 04:53, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I would prefer to keep {{Status}} as is and create an option called Pending.
- a) Changing what has become familiar will likely affect translation. b) The gray status also represents option temp. c) Pending by itself is extremely vague (Pending commencement of which step?) whereas the appearance of active action is intuitive enough in that the request has been successfully posted and the request will not be removed from consideration until a determination has been made.

- 1) The definition of "Pending" is: awaiting decision or settlement.
"Your request has been submitted. Please wait until someone reviews it." - 2) The definition of "In Progress" is: in the course of being done or carried out.
Your submitted request is being handled. Please wait for the decision.
- 1) The definition of "Pending" is: awaiting decision or settlement.
- As you can see, "In Progress" is a bit misleading. A user yesterday was confused by that, which got the discussion started, that we likely should change this.
- To answer your points: a) That is no reason to not better something. b) The gray colour doesn't change; it stays grey. It's just the wording, nothing in the template itself will change in the code. c) See the definitions. I disagree with your statement. That description is exactly what "Pending" means. Not "In Progress". Kind regards, Rodejong 💬 Talk ✉️ Email 📝 Edits יהוה

- I quite agree with 'Pending', I've thought about this on and off but never acted. I see no issue with the term as you could loop into confusion for 'In Progress' somewhat faster. I don't think the disruption to translation will be substantial either (though I'm far from an expert on that of course). --raidarr (💬) 14:08, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not concerned about everyday language translation, but more along the line of losing the familiar technical language. Once someone learns to auto translate a technical term, they become dependent upon it, and have to re think or re train how they think through a process. It may be a small change in everyday language, but the nuances are technically lost for the long term user.
- eg BRB be right back
- Say you use 3 letter abbreviations throughout the day to indicate project locations. Then one day, someone says BRB, you get confused and ask, where is BRB?

- It's a "We've always done it this way" or "Don't fix what isn't broken". But in this case, it is confusing.
- To say, don't change it, because it is inconvenient... I don't think that is a good reason to give in to.
- It's one simple change. Instead of In Progress it automatically states Pending. Clear and concise.

- It's not about fixing what isn't broken. I'm all for modernizing and improving systems.
- However, this is about changing familiar signs and symbols.
- Imagine someone who wasn't aware of the change and keeps insisting to the person they are trying to help that their directions are correct. I know it's there. Keep looking until you find it.

- I'm not entirely understanding the entire point being made, from what I understand, this isn't sufficiently an issue, considering likely anyone who would be exposed to enough noticeboard requests to be familiar with In Progress is almost certainly a Meta regular who's already fluent in English. Even for those of us not fluent in English, the switch to Pending is still more clear and a near non-issue I suspect. To your previous point, if Pending and in prog were to be separate, Pending would logically have to be the default, in which case, why not just rename In Progress? ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk ✦ Contributions ✦ CentralAuth) 03:42, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

- For the record, updating markers for the new name will need to be done, but probably should be done anyways since the current system is a bit jank, i.e. every mention of "In Progress" in this thread is being counted as an open request on AN, showing ~8 instead of the accurate 1. ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk ✦ Contributions ✦ CentralAuth) 04:06, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- I'm going to go ahead and
approve this requested change. All opinions are considered, but the points made by Rodejong, Raidarr, and PixDeVl are both thorough and persuasive. Additionally, as 3 (including myself) Meta administrators have expressed support for the change, I find that satisfactory to sign off on this proposal. Request to update images used by Custom domains[edit]
Hi - I recently went through the process to set up a custom domain and found the instructions confusing, so I'd like to improve them. The screenshots of Cloudflare are old and the UI has changed. I have taken screenshots of the new UI and tried to upload them without success. Could I be granted permission to change:
- File:Cloudflare dashboard 1.png
- File:Cloudflare dashboard 2.png
- File:Cloudflare dashboard 3.png -- this one is the highest priority to change because the CNAME setting is incorrect and directly contradicted by the information in the text!
And could I be granted permission to upload a screenshot of what it looks like when you configure NameCheap so the nameservers point to Cloudflare?
Edit to add: I have uploaded the screenshots to Miraheze Commons if it is helpful to see them in advance.
Thanks! Intervex (talk) 23:01, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Intervex! Thanks so much for offering to help out on improving that page. I granted you the confirmed group to bypass the file upload filter.. but then I saw you already had enough edits by now to be added to autoconfirmed and should be able to add files fine now (whoops, haha). As such, I'll mark this thread as redundant, but please let us know if any further issues pop up. Cheers! ╚PixDeVl╝ (Talk ✦ Contributions ✦ CentralAuth) 02:57, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
